Computer Relocations Recent Activity - January 2020

Site survey for our client the south west who are moving their server estate to the astonishing GCI Smartbunker. Hidden somewhere in the Lincolnshire countryside lurks GCI’s best-kept secret, the Smartbunker; an underground datacentre. Acquired by GCI in 2011, the Smartbunker was formerly the location of RAF Skendleby Chain Home Low radar station, that operated during the Second World War between 1941 and 1945. In 1950 the site was developed further by the RAF, with the addition of a two-storey underground facility excavated to house a ROTOR ground control intercept station that operated during the Cold War.

Site Survey for a new client looking to internally relocate 6 racks of kit within a Verizon facility. We’ll also be providing a port and cable audit as part of the service.

Relocation of fully-populated racks for a leading cargo service company with investments in 26 countries and operations in over 100. Racks of legacy equipment which, due to their age, needed to be handled by experienced engineers. As the racks would not fit in the lifts, our engineers carried them up the stairs before returning all the devices to their original positions. We then re-cabled the racks before power-cycling. All the devices booted with no issues.

Successful installation in Frankfurt of new credit card terminals for one of the worlds largest hotel chains. Working closely with the PMS provider, our engineer completed and tested multiple devices in the reception and restaurant areas.

Relocation of a blade chassis, servers and comms devices from Envoque’s Redditch data centre to a new facility in Edinburgh. Starting on Friday morning, the equipment was de-racked and transported to the Scottish capital before being re-racked on Saturday morning. The site was handed back to the client by midday giving them ample time to recommission before the Monday deadline.

Five day audit of 6 racks located in Verizon’s North East facility. Our engineers conduct a finger-trace of all power, patch and fibre connections, recording device name, rack position, host port and destination details. This information is built in to a valuable spreadsheet that can be used, not just for re-cabling, but also for the ongoing management of the site. Computer Relocations engineers have the skills and patience to complete error-free audits, both large and small.

Installation of new credit card terminals for a Birmingham hotel. New Pay@Table facility providing secure wireless facility for diners in our clients restaurant.

Successful server relocation for a new client pioneering plant science organisation based at the heart of the Cambridge science, technology and university community.

CRL awarded contract for major relocation from West Midlands data centre to a new data centre in Edinburgh for a client providing enterprise application services in the cloud.

Great meeting with a regular client based in Bath to discuss the re-cabling of 300 desks. Computer Relocations Limited have provided this client with relocation and secure recycling services for a number of years, so we’re thrilled they’ve asked for our advice and involvement during both the planning and implementation stages of the project.

Despite the best laid plans, sometimes relocations have to be postponed at the last minute. Due to unforeseen issues our new client was forced to delay their relocation 2 hours before the start time. As ever, Computer Relocations strived to accommodate the revised date and the move was successfully completed three days later. Things must have gone well because they’ve asked us to undertake another move later this week.

A server move for a new client from Canary Wharf to Taunton. Having collected the devices in the morning, the relocation was completed before 17:30 on the same day. Whilst their equipment was en route the client was provided with regular progress reports and, judging by their response, were very happy with the service from Computer Relocations Limited ‘….Just a quick email to say a big thanks with your help moving our hardware. You could not have been more helpful and flexible even with our change of dates at late notice. In addition the feedback about your driver and transport facilities was really positive from our engineers. If we need to move more kit again, we will be in touch. Great service, very many thanks.’

A new EPOS installation of credit card transaction processing equipment in Leiden, Netherlands. Liaising with our client, their customer and a number of third parties, our engineer helped coordinate the integration, commissioning and testing of the handsets. Computer Relocations provide relocation services for clients right across mainland Europe.

An office relocation in Cheshire for an excellent client that’s been using Computer Relocations for over a decade. In addition to relocating users PCs and printers, our engineers de-racked and re-racked a variety of server equipment, matching rails to devices that had previously been sitting on shelves. Following an early start, the move was completed by 14:00 and we then had the dubious pleasure of the M6 on a Friday afternoon.
